Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL) has solidified its position as India’s largest private transmission and distribution company by acquiring the Khavda Phase IV Part-A transmission project. The acquisition, completed following a letter of intent from REC Power Development and Consultancy Ltd, will further bolster AESL’s role in India’s energy transition.

The Khavda IVA Power Transmission Ltd, a special purpose vehicle (SPV) established by RECPDCL to evacuate 7 GW of renewable energy from the Khavda RE park, has been acquired by AESL. The Khavda IVA transmission line will connect Khavda to Lakadia and Khavda to Bhuj (both in Gujarat) through 765 kV double circuit lines and establish a transformation capacity of 4,500 MVA.

Khavda, renowned as the world’s largest renewable energy park with a planned generation capacity of 30 GW, plays a pivotal role in India’s decarbonisation efforts. The award of this project to AESL ensures the availability of critical transmission infrastructure for evacuating clean energy. The Adani Group’s focused approach will contribute to transforming Khavda from a barren landscape into a landmark in India’s net zero journey.

AESL secured the project through a Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process and will commission it within the next 24 months on a Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer (BOOT) basis. The company will maintain the project for the subsequent 35 years, investing approximately Rs 4,091 crore in constructing the ~298 km (596 ckm) transmission line. The project also includes the establishment of 300 MVAr STATCOM and 3×1500 MVA, 765/400 kV Inter-connecting Transformers (ICTs) with 1×330 MVAr, 765 kV and 1×125 MVAr, 420 kV bus reactors.

“As the world’s largest renewable energy park, Khavda demands power evacuation infrastructure that is not only world-class but also resilient and future-ready,” said Mr Kandarp Patel, Chief Executive Officer, AESL. “This investment will not only establish the critical transmission network required to evacuate the planned 30 GW of green power that Khavda will generate but also provide the much-needed grid stability. AESL is proud to be part of this initiative as this network will play a very important role in the seamless flow of green energy to the national grid, bolstering India’s journey towards net zero.”
