Atul Ltd announced that Atul Village, situated in the Valsad district of Gujarat and developed by the company, has been awarded the esteemed Platinum Green Village certification by the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), a division of the Confederation of Indian Industry. The IGBC assesses villages using multiple sustainability criteria to promote environmentally friendly practices and infrastructure. This notable accomplishment distinguishes Atul Village as one of six platinum-rated villages for its commitment to green initiatives.

Located along the Par River, Atul village is a project undertaken by Atul Ltd (Atul) in Gujarat’s Valsad district. Atul Foundation, the corporate social responsibility (CSR) arm of Atul, spearheads various initiatives aimed at community development and environmental conservation within Atul and neighbouring villages.

The IGBC certification acknowledges the sustainability initiatives undertaken at Atul Village, led by the Atul Foundation in partnership with the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD). These initiatives include:

  • Implement robust health and hygiene measures, such as solid waste management, household and community toilets, and accessible healthcare facilities.
  • The development of resilient and sustainable village infrastructure features model anganwadis, green forest covers, and Miyawaki forests.
  • Promotion of water conservation methods such as sewage treatment plants, rainwater harvesting systems, and projects for natural resource management.
  • Ensuring efficient energy utilisation and availability through the adoption of LED lights and solar energy harnessing.
  • Adoption of eco-friendly construction materials and resources like bamboo, fly ash bricks, and Mangalore tiles.
  • Promotion of social and community engagement initiatives like the establishment of self-help groups.
  • Encouragement of green innovations such as waste management systems and gas-based crematoriums.
