Bharti Airtel Limited, commonly known as Airtel, is an Indian multinational telecommunications services company based in New Delhi. It operates in 18 countries across South Asia and Africa, as well as the Channel Islands. Currently, Airtel provides 5G, 4G, and LTE Advanced services throughout India. Currently offered services include fixed-line broadband, and voice services depending upon the country of operation. Airtel had also rolled out its Voice over LTE (VoLTE) technology across all Indian telecom circles. It is the second-largest mobile network operator in India.

Bharti Airtel brings up tariff hikes

Bharti Airtel has announced an increase in mobile tariffs effective July 3, following Reliance Jio’s recent hike of 12-27%  its first in two and a half years. Airtel’s adjustments include raising the price of its unlimited voice plans. For instance, the Rs 179 plan will now cost Rs 199, while the Rs 455 plan has been adjusted to Rs 599. Similarly, the Rs 1,799 plan sees an increase to Rs 1,999. This move reflects ongoing adjustments in the telecom sector aimed at maintaining sustainable service offerings amid market dynamics.

Airtel Opens Up By 4%

With this tariff hike, the stock of Bharti Airtel surged over 4% in the pre-opening session and made a new 52-week high of Rs.1,536.25. The stock is up by  8% in the past one month and has delivered more than 70% in the past year. The stock currently trades at Rs.1,485.55 per share up by 0.65% from its previous day’s closing price.

Conclusion: This tariff hike by Bharti Airtel, following Reliance Jio’s increase, signifies a broader trend of rising costs in the telecom industry with Vodafone Idea expected to follow the two largest telecom operators of India.
