The total market capitalisation of listed companies on the BSE SME platform hit Rs 75,000 Crore on Thursday. The number of companies listed on the BSE SME platform to date is 446 companies. The average market capitalisation of these companies stands at approximately Rs 168 Crore.
In FY23, SME firms raised Rs 2,232 Crore through 125 offerings, which is more than triple the amount raised by mainboard issuances during the same period. This collection amount is 128% higher than the previous year and exceeds the cumulative Rs 1,722 Crore raised in the previous three years.
The performance of some SME IPOs in the last two years has attracted retail and HNI investors to the SME segment. Data from Hem Securities indicates that one out of every five SME IPOs was oversubscribed by over 100 times, and 15 IPOs were oversubscribed by more than 200 times during the year 2022-23.
In October of the previous year, the 400th company was listed. Maharashtra and Gujarat have witnessed the highest number of listings among all regions.
On the listing day, around 82% of the total companies listed on the SME platform yielded positive returns, compared to 65% on the main board.
Moreover, the current market capitalisation of the companies listed on BSE SME is Rs 75,282.96 Crore. To date, the total funds raised by these listed SME companies amount to Rs 5,307.28 Crore. So far, 178 companies have migrated from the SME platform to the main board, leaving a total of 268 companies currently listed. Among them, trading is allowed for 230 companies.
The combined market capitalisation of all BSE SME listed companies present at this moment is approximately Rs 21,138.26 Crore.

However, it is essential to note that investing in SMEs involves higher risks due to limited analyst coverage and publicly available data. Investors must rely on their own judgment to evaluate the credibility of the promoters.
At the time of writing this article, the BSE SME IPO is currently trading at 27,667.02 levels, indicating a rise of 391 points or approximately 1.43%.
