NLC India Limited’s (NLCIL) dedication to operational excellence has been recognised by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) in its recent report on Plant Load Factor (PLF). NLCIL’s thermal power units have secured the top three positions among all operating lignite power stations in the country.

This achievement signifies NLCIL’s commitment to reliable and efficient power generation. Their Neyveli New Thermal Power Station (NNTPS) with its two 500 MW units, emerged as the national champion for lignite-fired stations, consistently achieving a high PLF throughout FY 2023-24 (excluding September 2023). This exceptional performance translates to maximising power generation from lignite resources, a crucial fuel source for India’s energy needs.

But NLCIL’s success extends beyond a single plant. Their prowess in operations and maintenance (O&M) practices is further highlighted by the impressive performance of their Thermal Power Station-I Expansion unit (TPS-I Expansion) at Neyveli. This unit bagged the third position among all India Central Sector Thermal Power Stations for the month of March 2024, boasting a remarkable PLF of 97.92%. Similarly, the NLC Barsingsar Thermal Power Station (BTPS) in Rajasthan, with its two 125 MW units, also played a significant role in NLCIL’s top rankings.

These achievements are a testament to the company’s unwavering commitment to excellence. For over six decades, they have been a reliable source of power, consistently exceeding expectations and serving the energy demands of the nation. Their strategic approach to O&M ensures optimal utilisation of lignite resources, maximising power generation while maintaining efficient plant operations. This focus on efficiency translates to lower costs and a more sustainable approach to power generation.

NLCIL’s top rankings in the CEA report are a well-deserved recognition of their dedication to operational excellence. As India continues to strive for a robust and reliable power sector, NLCIL stands tall as a leading player, demonstrating the potential of lignite as a valuable source of energy.
