Crompton Lights Up Bengaluru’s STRR with Eco-Friendly LED Streetlights

On September 2, 2024, Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals Ltd, known for its innovative lighting solutions, completed a major LED street lighting project on Bengaluru’s Satellite Town Ring Road (STRR) in collaboration with Shankaranarayana Construction Pvt. Ltd (SNC) for the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) – NH648. This project marks a significant advancement in road safety for key national highways.

The 280-kilometer STRR is an important infrastructure project that connects 12 major towns, aiming to ease traffic congestion and boost economic development in the Bengaluru region. Crompton, as the main lighting solution provider for NHAI projects, played a crucial role in lighting a vital 42-kilometre section between Dobaspete and Doddaballapur using state-of-the-art LED streetlights, ensuring the project’s success.

To meet NHAI’s strict lighting standards, Crompton developed a sophisticated lighting design to provide the best visibility for all road users. More than 2,000 energy-efficient streetlights, ranging from 220W to 270W, along with over 1,300 poles, were installed. These installations have significantly enhanced road safety and reduced electricity consumption by up to 50% compared to traditional lighting solutions.

These state-of-the-art streetlights are designed for high performance and durability, featuring:

• Made with pressure die-cast aluminium housing for excellent strength and long life.
• Equipped with toughened glass and IP66 ingress protection to guard against environmental factors.
• Advanced secondary optics for even lighting across the road surface.
• High lumen efficiency of over 125/135 lm/W for maximum light output.
• IK08 impact resistance to handle external shocks.
• Includes a potted driver with 4KV + 10KV surge protection for dependable operation.

Using advanced lighting technology, Crompton’s LED streetlights play a key role in environmental conservation. These LED lights save up to 50% more energy than traditional lighting, significantly reducing carbon emissions. The improved visibility from the new lighting system is expected to enhance road safety and provide a safer commuting experience for all road users.
