The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has taken a significant step towards “Jai Anusandhan” (meaning “National Innovation”) by announcing two crucial calls for proposals. These initiatives aim to accelerate innovation and technological advancements within the Indian telecommunications sector.

Fostering a Culture of Innovation

These proposals categorised as “5G Intelligent Village” and “Quantum Encryption Algorithm,” aim to engage a wide range of participants. This includes industry leaders, MSMEs, startups, academic institutions, and government departments involved in telecommunication technology design, development, and commercialisation. Funded under the DoT’s Telecom Technology Development Fund (TTDF) scheme, these proposals represent a pivotal step towards leveraging cutting-edge technologies for societal benefit and solidifying India’s position as a telecom innovation leader

Bridging the Digital Divide with 5G

The “5G Intelligent Village” initiative addresses the pressing need for equitable technological advancement by harnessing the transformative power of 5G technology. The call for proposals, titled “From Connectivity Gaps to Smart Solutions: Designing 5G Networks for Rural Innovation – 5G Intelligent Villages,” focuses on critical pillars like agriculture, education, healthcare, governance, and sustainability.

Proposed Village Locations

  • Dharmaj, Dist Anand, Gujarat
  • Ramgarh Urf Rajahi, Dist Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh
  • Anandpur Jalbera, Dist Ambala, Haryana
  • Bazargaon, Dist Nagpur, Maharashtra
  • Bhagwanpura, Dist Bhilwara, Rajasthan
  • Dablong, Dist Nagaon, Assam
  • Raosar, District Ashoknagar, Madhya Pradesh
  • Aari, District Guna, Madhya Pradesh
  • Banskhedi, District Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh
  • Burripalem, District Guntur, Andhra Pradesh

The initiative invites proposals that enable the effective utilisation of 5G’s Ultra-Reliable Low-Latency Communication (URLLC) and massive Machine Type Communication (mMTC) capabilities in these selected villages. This will serve as a showcase for the advantages of 5G connectivity and can also include plans to establish 5G infrastructure in areas currently lacking coverage.

Uniting Stakeholders for Innovation

This program aims to unite telecom service providers, sensor manufacturers, CCTV suppliers, and IoT providers on a single platform. This collaboration will explore and exploit 5 G’s potential advantages, fostering a hub for research and development in this critical field.

Securing the Future with Quantum Encryption

The call for proposals for a “Quantum Encryption Algorithm” (QEA) seeks the development of an India-specific solution. This cutting-edge approach will leverage the principles of quantum mechanics to secure digital communication channels. The ideal QEA should offer unparalleled security, advanced encryption capabilities, and ultra-fast and efficient encryption.

Proposals for both initiatives are due by July 31, 2024. The DoT encourages collaborative efforts to unlock the transformative potential of 5G and quantum encryption, paving the way for a digitally resilient future for India.

About Telecom Technology Development Fund (TTDF)

The Telecom Technology Development Fund (TTDF) was established under the Department of Telecommunications’ Universal Services Obligation Fund (USOF). Its purpose is to stimulate a robust ecosystem for research, design, prototyping, proof-of-concept testing, intellectual property creation, field testing, security, certification, and manufacturing within the Indian telecommunications sector.
