On July 2, 2024, HCL Technologies Limited (HCLTech) announced a new partnership with IBM to establish a Generative AI Center of Excellence (GenAI CoE) based on IBM’s Watsonx™ AI and data platform. This initiative will be hosted at HCLTech’s AI and Cloud Native Labs across Noida, London, New Jersey, and Santa Clara. It aims to modernise legacy applications, develop IT service management (ITSM) solutions, streamline coding complexity, and enhance skills on the Watsonx™ platform for continuous innovation.

In collaboration with IBM, HCLTech plans to train 10,000 of its engineers and architects in IBM’s AI technologies, focusing on Watsonx™. The joint portfolio, CloudSMART for IBM, supports businesses in ongoing innovation with insights from both business and technology domains.

The GenAI CoE will provide clients access to comprehensive education and training resources covering various AI technologies such as Watsonx.ai, Watsonx.data, Watsonx.governance, Watsonx Code Assistants, Watsonx Orchestrate, and Watsonx Assistant. This initiative aims to upskill resources and facilitate the development of practical use cases.

Commenting on this collaboration, the EVP, Global Head of AI and Cloud Native Labs at HCLTech, Alan Flower, said, “This expansion of our work with IBM will facilitate rapid exploration of AI’s potential as we create highly differentiated HCLTech offerings using the latest IBM technology. We plan to embed watsonx in HCLTech AI Force with GenAI-powered solutions to support code Modernisation.”

He also added, “Additionally, we plan to help our clients accelerate GenAI adoption through AI facilitated by watsonx while enhancing digital skills for enterprise productivity through the implementation of watsonx Orchestrate.”

The General Manager of Service Partners at IBM Ecosystem, Stephen Smith, said, “Driving adoption of responsible generative AI solutions is an important component of our collaboration with service partners like HCLTech. Through this Center of Excellence, we plan to empower our joint clients to rapidly explore, experiment and engineer generative AI solutions with watsonx that are designed to meet their current business challenges.”
