India kicked off its latest auction for 5G airwaves on Tuesday, with a total value exceeding ₹96,000 crore. This auction marks a significant step towards establishing a robust 5G infrastructure within the country.
While the auction encompasses 8 different frequency bands, the total amount of spectrum available (10.5 GHz) is considerably lower compared to the 72 GHz offered in the country’s inaugural 5G auction in July 2022.
Major telecom players—Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea (Vi)—are all participating in the auction. Each company is eager to secure the necessary radio frequencies to deploy and enhance its 5G mobile services. The government collected a record ₹1.5 lakh crore during the previous spectrum auction in August 2022.
Three pre-qualified bidders: Bharti Airtel Limited, Vodafone Idea Ltd, and Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd.
