Indian Auto Industry sold 2.60 Crore vehicles in FY 2022-23, which was 2.32 Crore in FY2021-22.
Total domestic vehicle sales increased from 1.76 Crore to 2.12 Crore vehicles in FY 2022-23 showing a growth of 20%. Within this, total Passenger Vehicle Sales increased from 30,69,523 to 38,90,114 units and the overall Commercial Vehicles sales increased from 7,16,566 to 9,62,468 units.
Whereas 3W sales increased from 2,61,385 to 4,88,768 vehicles showing a growth of 87% and 2W sales increased from 1.35 Crore to 1.58 Crore registering a growth of 17%.

In May 2023, Bajaj Auto showed remarkable growth, with units sold surging from 16,178 to 33,555, a 107.41% increase, making it the standout performer. Mahindra & Mahindra also saw growth at 60.52%, going from 3,645 units to 5,851 units. Meanwhile, TVS Motor Co had modest growth at 4.54%, and Atul Auto faced a decline of -22.36%. In terms of market share, Bajaj Auto continued to dominate, increasing its share from 71.9% in May 2022 to 80.2% in May 2023.

Bajaj also demonstrated growth in September, with units sold increasing from 21,840 to 35,639, resulting in a growth rate of 63.18%.
Mahindra showed growth as well, though the rate was lower than Bajaj, at 33.67%. Units sold went from 4,342 to 5,804.
TVS Motors had a growth rate of 13.57%, with units sold increasing from 1,238 to 1,406.
Atul Auto experienced growth with a rate of 36.21%, going from 1,588 units to 2,163 units.
Bajaj continued to dominate the market in terms of market share, increasing it from 75.29% in September 2022 to 79.18% in September 2023.
Bajaj Auto remained the market leader in both May and September, consistently increasing its market share and units sold. Mahindra & Mahindra, TVS Motor Co, and Atul Auto also experienced growth in both periods but at varying rates, with Atul Auto being the only one experiencing a decline in May 2023. The positive growth rates suggest that the industry experienced overall growth during this period, with Bajaj being the market leader.
