InterGlobe Aviation Limited is an Indian low-cost airline based in Gurgaon, Haryana. As of August 2024, it is the largest airline in India in terms of passenger volume and fleet size, holding a 62% share of the domestic market.

Indigo codeshare partnership with Japan Airlines

IndiGo announced on Monday that its codeshare partnership will commence on December 16. The two airlines have established a codeshare arrangement that will enable IndiGo to assist the Japanese carrier in extending its services to 18 destinations within its domestic network.

With this codeshare agreement, travellers will book tickets using the flight number of the airline they choose, even if the flight is operated by a different carrier. This collaboration allows both airlines to enhance their service offerings within each other’s networks. Additionally, the airlines stated that reservations and ticket sales for their codeshare flights will open on December 4.

IndiGo other codeshare partnerships

IndiGo has established codeshare agreements with several airlines, including British Airways, Turkish Airlines, Qatar Airways, American Airlines, Air France-KLM, Australian airline Qantas, and Virgin Atlantic. Japan Airlines (JAL) will initiate codesharing on domestic Indian routes that link to flights operated by JAL travelling to and from Delhi and Bengaluru. At present, JAL offers daily flights from Tokyo (Haneda) to Delhi, along with five weekly flights from Tokyo (Narita) to Bengaluru.

Ross Leggett from Japan Airlines stated

“India has experienced impressive economic growth lately, resulting in a notable rise in air travel demand between Japan and India,” stated Ross Leggett, Managing Executive Officer and Senior Vice President of Route Marketing at Japan Airlines.“We are confident that this partnership will improve connectivity between the two nations while also strengthening cultural and economic relationships,” he continued.

Abhijit Das Gupta from IndiGo stated

Abhijit Das Gupta, the senior vice president of network planning and revenue management at IndiGo, stated that the codeshare agreement will enhance business, trade, and tourism travel between India and Japan. 

“This partnership will allow passengers from both airlines to discover some of the most culturally vibrant destinations in India and Japan, renowned for their history, culinary delights, nightlife, and important landmarks,” he noted. “As both countries are strategically collaborating, this codeshare will further strengthen the bilateral relationship between India and Japan.”
