InterGlobe Aviation Ltd, widely recognised as IndiGo, is the largest airline in India and ranks among the fastest-growing low-cost carriers globally. Established in 2006, it operates under the IndiGo brand and is based in Gurgaon, Haryana, India. The airline has become a byword for economical and reliable air travel within the country.

IndiGo’s Response to AirHelp Ranking Concerns

Following a recent global ranking survey by AirHelp, which labelled IndiGo as one of the poorest airlines worldwide, India’s largest domestic carrier has vehemently dismissed the findings, questioning both the validity and methodology used in the rankings.

What is the Purpose of Airhelp?

AirHelp is an organisation dedicated to handling compensation claims for passengers. It carried out its annual survey to evaluate airline performance, taking into account various factors such as timeliness, service quality, and compliance with compensation regulations.

In the results of the survey, IndiGo received a low score of 4.8, placing it below airlines like Tunisair, Buzz, Nouvelair, Bulgaria Air, El Al Israel Airlines, and Pegasus Airlines. In comparison, Air India was rated 6.15 in the AirHelp rankings.

IndiGo Questions on AirHelp Methodology

IndiGo has raised concerns about AirHelp’s methodology, pointing out that the organisation did not disclose the sample size from India and failed to consider the methodology or compensation standards employed by the global aviation sector. The airline argued that this lack of transparency undermines the reliability of the survey.

Additionally, IndiGo emphasised that it has consistently achieved high punctuality ratings in the monthly reports released by India’s aviation authority, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), and maintains the lowest customer complaint ratio among airlines of comparable size and operational scale.
