Indian Railway Catering And Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is set to streamline its passenger services with a new all-encompassing mobile app, expected by December 2024.

Developed by the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), this platform will combine essential services currently available through separate applications, aiming to simplify the user experience for millions of railway passengers across the country.

This comprehensive application will allow users to book tickets, buy platform passes, and monitor train schedules, working in coordination with IRCTC’s established ticketing and service systems.

Existing Platforms and IRCTC’s Dominance

Currently, passengers rely on multiple apps for different services, including IRCTC Rail Connect for ticket bookings, IRCTC eCatering for food orders, Rail Madad for grievances, UTS for unreserved tickets, and the National Train Enquiry System for live train tracking. Of these, IRCTC Rail Connect, which holds exclusive rights to reserved ticket bookings, remains the most popular, with over 100 million downloads.

IRCTC’s extensive infrastructure powers these services, and recent upgrades aim to further enhance its technical capabilities. The platform also supports third-party travel booking sites for train reservations, underscoring its central role in the railway’s digital ecosystem.

Financial Performance Highlights for Q2 FY2025

For the quarter ending September 30, 2024, IRCTC reported an increase in total income, recording ₹1,12,377.21 lakh, up from ₹1,03,947.13 lakh in Q2 FY2024. Revenue from the ticketing segment alone was ₹37,095.66 lakh in Q2 FY2025, compared to ₹32,750.40 lakh in the same quarter the previous year.
