JSW MG Motor, one of the leading names in automobile manufacturing, has partnered with Shell India for EV charging expansion across India. This collaboration aims to provide consumers with fast charging options in cities and along long-distance routes to enhance the electric charging infrastructure. JSW MG Motor India currently operates a manufacturing plant in Halol, Gujarat, with an annual capacity of 80,000 units. The plant was previously under the ownership of General Motors India, but they discontinued their sales operations in India by the end of 2017. Chief Growth Officer Gaurav Gupta from JSW MG Motor stated that they aim to enhance mobility and drive the adoption of electric vehicles nationwide. Through these partnerships, they can provide improved services to their customers and facilitate easy EV charging with the extensive network of Shell India. Shell India has previously collaborated with Tata Motors and Hyundai India in the last year.

MoU for 50kW and 60kW DC fast charging stations:

JSW MG Motor stated in a press release that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed with Shell India. Under this agreement, they will deploy CCS 50kW and 60kW DC fast chargers at various locations throughout India to support the EV charging network and facilitate long-distance travel for electric vehicle users.

Shell India will have 1200 stations by 2030:

Currently, Shell India has 350 stations across India, and they want to expand their network to 1200 by 2023. The objective was to finish this expansion by 2027, but COVID-19 caused a 3-year delay, so they anticipate a deviation from their planned timeline.

JSW MG Motor’s 40% sales in the EV sector:
JSW MG Motor sold 1,861 EVs in June 2024, which accounted for 40% of its total sales for the month. They are gradually expanding in the EV sector, and the partnership with Shell India is boosting their sales in the Indian market.

Conclusion: JSW MG Motor’s long-term partnership with Shell will provide a wider range of EV charging options for consumers, especially for long-distance travelers.
