JSW Steel Limited has announced the initiation of a pilot demonstration with JFE Steel Corporation to implement cloud-based Cyber-Physical System (CPS) technologies at its Vijayanagar Works.
This innovative project aims to leverage data science in a cloud environment to optimise blast furnace operations and improve steel manufacturing efficiency. It marks the first instance of JFE providing its proprietary CPS capabilities to JSW Steel through a cloud-based platform. This collaboration signifies a deepening of their strategic partnership, with plans for future digital transformation initiatives in steel production at JSW Steel. JFE also intends to extend these solution-based services to its partners worldwide.
JSW Steel and JFE will collaborate on operating the cloud-based data science technology known as Blast Furnace Cyber-Physical System (BF-CPS) at JSW Steel’s Vijayanagar Works. This technology will enable JSW Steel to visualise and predict blast furnace operations, enhancing its ability to anticipate abnormalities through models for controlling hot metal temperatures and predicting channelling.
By implementing BF-CPS, JSW Steel aims to reduce operational challenges at its blast furnaces, ensuring more agile and stable operations. Additionally, the initiative is expected to contribute to reducing CO2 emissions from blast furnace operations. JFE has successfully deployed this technology across its seven blast furnaces, achieving high efficiency and stability in operations.
Since 2009, JSW and JFE have been strengthening their strategic partnership through capital investments and the provision of technical solutions, including automotive steels, electrical steels, and environmental initiatives.
JFE anticipates increasing productivity and operational stability by actively promoting digital transformation (DX). Through DX, JFE continues to innovate and provide solutions across various domains, including extending technologies like BF-CPS to its global strategic partners. This effort aligns with JFE’s commitment to fostering a sustainable future on a broader scale.
Speaking on the collaboration between JSW Steel and JFE, the COO of Manufacturing at JSW Steel, Mr Gajraj Singh Rathore, said, “The digital collaboration with JFE to introduce Blast Furnace Cyber-Physical System technologies further strengthens our long-standing partnership with JFE Steel. This technological intervention will enable us to enhance the efficiencies of our blast furnace operations while positioning JSW Steel as a top-runner in data science tech deployment in the global steel sector. Both our organisations will also continue to explore newer possibilities for such tech collaborations in various fields.”
On July 1, 2024, the share price of JSW Steel Ltd opened at ₹935.00, touching the day’s high at ₹947.50, as of 1:21 PM on the NSE.
