On August 30, 2024, Mahindra Group and Sentrycs Ltd signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore opportunities to develop and offer unique anti-drone solutions in India, targeting civilian and military applications.
This MoU focuses on technology related to anti-drone systems, aiming to transfer technology (TOT) and manufacture radio frequency-based counter-drone solutions in line with the Indian Government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative.
The proposed anti-drone solution will be an autonomous and integrated system featuring a command and control (C2) module. It can detect, track, identify, and neutralise incoming drones.
Additionally, the system can monitor drone flight paths, recognise specific drone models, and identify their unique serial numbers and IDs, which helps differentiate between friendly and hostile drones. If a drone is deemed a threat, the system can autonomously take control and ensure it lands safely in a predefined area, avoiding any collateral damage.
This system can be used to protect critical infrastructure in urban areas or be part of a broader, multi-layered anti-drone defence for military purposes.
Speaking about the MoU, Mr Vinod Sahay, President of the Aerospace & Defence Sector and Member of the Group Executive Board, Mahindra, said, “We are proud to have a solution that aids in the protection of the country and its assets. We believe that this MOU with Sentrycs would enable the Group to explore opportunities in the anti-drone space and set the stage for cutting-edge technological offerings with global partners for a full suite of anti-drone solutions across applications in the future. This is also in alignment with our objectives of Make in India.”
Mr Jasbir Solanki, CEO of the Homeland and Cyber Security division and Head of the Counter Unmanned Aerial Systems business at Mahindra Group, and Mr Yoav Zaltzman, CEO of Sentrycs, signed the MoU.
Established in 1945, the Mahindra Group is a large and respected multinational federation of companies employing 2,60,000 people across more than 100 countries. India leads in sectors like farm equipment, utility vehicles, information technology, and financial services. Globally, it is the largest tractor manufacturer by volume.
