In a significant move towards bolstering India’s clean energy transition, NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of NTPC Limited, India’s largest power utility, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mahatma Phule Renewable Energy and Infrastructure Technology Limited (MAHAPREIT) on May 8, 2024. This strategic collaboration marks a crucial step forward in developing large-scale renewable energy projects within the state of Maharashtra.

Aligning for a Greener Future

The MoU signifies a shared commitment between NGEL and MAHAPREIT to realise the green energy objectives outlined by NTPC and the Government of India’s ambitious energy transition agenda. Through this collaborative effort, both entities will focus on the joint development of grid-connected Renewable Energy Parks and Projects across Maharashtra.

Focus on Diverse Renewable Energy Sources

The envisioned projects will encompass various renewable energy sources, including solar, wind, and hybrid systems. Additionally, the MoU paves the way for exploring innovative solutions that could further enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of these renewable energy projects. The total targeted capacity for these joint developments is an impressive 10 GW, signifying a substantial contribution to India’s clean energy landscape.

NGEL’s Ambitious Renewable Energy Roadmap

This MoU aligns perfectly with NGEL’s ambitious plans for the future. As a key player in India’s clean energy sector, NGEL aims to establish a robust portfolio of renewable energy projects. The company currently boasts an installed RE capacity of 3.5 GW and has an additional 28+ GW of projects under development. The collaboration with MAHAPREIT significantly bolsters NGEL’s pipeline and positions it as a frontrunner in driving India’s transition towards a sustainable energy future.

Looking Ahead

The signing of this MoU marks a significant milestone in the collective effort to achieve India’s clean energy goals. By joining forces, NGEL and MAHAPREIT have the potential to unlock the vast renewable energy potential of Maharashtra, contributing to a cleaner, more sustainable future for the state and the nation as a whole. This collaborative effort sets a strong example for future partnerships within the renewable energy sector, paving the way for continued innovation and large-scale project development.
