NHPC Limited, one of India’s foremost hydropower companies and a central public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Power, has won a significant bid to spearhead the development of a 200 MW capacity Solar Power Project on March 15, 2024. This venture is slated to be established within the 1,125 MW RE Park operated by the Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Ltd (GSECL) situated at Khavda in the Kachchh district of Gujarat.

The anticipated output of this project is substantial, with an estimated generation of approximately 473 million units of electricity within the first year of commissioning alone. Over a span of 25 years, it is projected to yield an impressive cumulative energy generation of about 10,850 million units. NHPC is set to undertake the development of this project on a build-own-and-operate basis, with a tentative development cost pegged at ₹847 crores.

The Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited facilitated the competitive e-reverse auction for the project on March 02, 2024. Following a rigorous selection process, the Letter of Intent endorsing NHPC’s bid was formally issued on March 14, 2024. Remarkably, NHPC managed to secure this project at an economically advantageous tariff rate of ₹2.66 per unit, indicative of the company’s commitment to delivering cost-effective renewable energy solutions. The projected timeline for completion stands at a commendable 18 months.

This successful bid not only signifies NHPC’s growing footprint in the renewable energy sector but also underscores its pivotal role in advancing India’s sustainable energy agenda. By leveraging its expertise and resources, NHPC is poised to make significant contributions towards augmenting the nation’s renewable energy capacity while simultaneously fostering economic growth and environmental sustainability.

Furthermore, the strategic location of the project within Gujarat, a state renowned for its proactive stance towards renewable energy development, augurs well for its long-term viability and impact. As NHPC embarks on this ambitious endeavour, it is poised to set new benchmarks for efficiency, innovation, and environmental stewardship in the renewable energy landscape.

In conclusion, NHPC’s triumph in securing the bid for the 200 MW Solar Power Project underscores its unwavering commitment to driving sustainable development and renewable energy adoption in India.
