On July 4, 2024, Optiemus Unmanned Systems Private Limited (OUS), a subsidiary of Optiemus Infracom Limited, launched a new range of drones for agricultural and mapping purposes.

These drones are powered by components designed and manufactured in India and are showcased at the 5th Drone International Expo at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.

Investment and Revenue Goals

Optiemus Unmanned Systems Private Limited plans to adopt a ‘Drone as a Service’ strategy to reach its target markets and will train about 6,000 pilots to manage a fleet of 5,000 drones by the end of 2025. Optiemus Infracom is investing approximately ₹140 crores in this project and aims to generate service revenue between ₹600 and ₹900 crores by the end of 2025.

Alignment with the “Make in India” Vision

The main goal for Optiemus Unmanned Systems Private Limited is to align with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Make in India” vision and support the prosperity of farmers, the country’s backbone. Focusing on this goal, OUS plans to develop drones using locally made parts, aiming for at least 65% indigenisation, with a target of increasing to 75% by the end of the financial year.

OUS has already localised several components, including the power distribution board, anti-spark switch, flight controller, airframe, and motor. These drones are designed for precision farming and spraying and will be offered at affordable prices to promote widespread adoption across India.

After-Sales Service and Support

Another key focus for OUS is after-sales service and support to ensure smooth operations. To achieve this, OUS will keep a stock of drones and drone components on standby and maintain a team with the necessary technical and operational expertise.

Drone Specifications

One of their agricultural drones, the Agri Shakti 10L, can fly for up to 15 minutes at full capacity and has a 10-litre spray tank covering approximately 1 acre in about 7 minutes. To support Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of aiding the country’s farmers, OUS is launching the Agri Shakti 10L at a starting price of ₹2.25 lakhs plus GST.

The Vajra QC P20, another offering, is a precision agriculture and mapping drone that weighs about 2 kg and can fly for over 30 minutes. It has a maximum range of 4 km and can survey an area of 0.5 to 1 square km. The Vajra QC P20 is designed to optimise crop health and yields, promoting sustainable farming practices. It is also useful for mapping farmlands, which helps the insurance industry assess crop damage after natural disasters.
