Shyam Metalics and Energy Ltd., a leading integrated metal manufacturing company in India, proudly announces the launch of operations at its state-of-the-art Coke Oven Plant in Jamuria, West Bengal. This facility’s commencement marks a significant advancement in the company’s expansion and sustainability objectives, with backward integration set to enhance profitability by reducing costs and improving supply chain control.
The coke oven plant, recently heated for commissioning, consists of two batteries, each containing 35 ovens. It will primarily utilize coal imported from Australia, Indonesia, and Russia to produce high-quality coke. This coke will supply Shyam Metalics’ blast furnace, sinter plant, and ferroalloys facility, thereby boosting production efficiency and quality across all operations.
A standout feature of the new plant is its eco-friendly design. It adheres to stringent environmental regulations with a non-recovery coke oven system that ensures zero emissions. Additionally, the facility includes a waste heat recovery boiler (WHRB) that captures flue gas generated during coke production to generate electricity, enhancing efficiency and minimizing environmental impact.
Shyam Metalics and Energy anticipates the commissioning of the blast furnace later this year. The Jamuria plant will play a crucial role in supporting the company’s integrated steel and metal production.
Commenting on the development, Brij Bhushan Agarwal, Vice Chairman and Managing Director, of Shyam Metalics said, “The commissioning of the coke oven plant at Jamuria is a landmark achievement for Shyam Metalics as we strive ahead on the journey. This plant strengthens our dedication to being environmentally conscious while also improving our manufacturing capacity. Our emphasis on environmental responsibility is demonstrated using zero-emission non-recovery coke oven technology and the incorporation of a waste heat recovery system for power generation. We are confident that this plant will set new benchmarks for safety, efficiency, and sustainability in the industry.”
