On the monthly expiry day of October 2023, the markets were under the control of bears, as Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) made gross purchases of Rs. 10,239.05 crores and gross sales of Rs. 17,941.58 crores, resulting in a net outflow of Rs. 7,702.53 crores. Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) made a net purchase of Rs. 6,558.45 crores. In the month of October 2023, FIIs sold around Rs. 25,098.60 crores amid a rise in US bond yields to near 5%.

Here is an interesting data point indicating the highest FII holdings in certain stocks. High FII holdings suggest a significant capital inflow from mutual funds, pension funds, and other institutional investors interested in investing in a specific country’s stock market. This influx of capital can stimulate economic growth.

When foreign institutional investors hold a substantial stake in a company, their perception of the company’s performance and prospects can impact its valuation. High FII holdings may indicate that foreign investors have confidence in the company’s growth potential. This also suggests good liquidity in the stock and stability in the company’s stock price. However, a high FII stake may lead to a concentration of ownership by FIIs, potentially reducing the influence of domestic shareholders and stakeholders.
