SJVN Green Energy and AM Green Ammonia India Partner for Renewable Energy Supply

SJVN Green Energy Limited and AM Green Ammonia Pvt. Ltd. entered into a MoU on 26 June for the supply and sourcing of renewable energy with plans to set up plants in India.

In Delhi on 26 June 2024, SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of SJVN, entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with AM Green Ammonia (India) Private Limited. The agreement was signed by Ajay Singh, CEO of SEGL, and Bhuwan Chandra Tripathi, CEO of Green Ammonia. The MoU is based on the supply and sourcing of renewable energy on a long-term basis from Green Ammonia plants that are currently in plans to be developed.

A step towards renewability:

The collaboration between SJVN and AM Green Ammonia is a significant step towards renewable solutions as it aims to foster the development of green hydrogen and ammonia. AM Green Ammonia plans to build the world’s largest Green Ammonia platforms in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. It has planned the project in 2 phases, initially with a capacity of 1 million tonnes per annum and then expanding to 5 million tonnes per annum by 2030. This ambitious expansion plan equates to producing 1 million tonnes per annum of hydrogen, positioning India as a global leader in green energy production.

About SJVN:

SJVN, formerly known as Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam, is an Indian public sector undertaking headquartered in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. The company was incorporated in 1988 as Nathpa Jhakri Power Corporation and runs as a joint venture between the Government of India and the Government of Himachal Pradesh. It is now listed on the exchange platforms with a shareholding pattern of 55% with GOI, 26.85% with the state government, and the rest with the public.  Its operational footprint spans various states in India like Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh, and other states in the north and central parts of India. The company began its operations with a single-state operation of India’s largest 1500MW Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station in Himachal Pradesh and has never looked back. SJVN is currently in a joint venture with Cross-border Power Transmission Company(CPTC) to expand its footprint in Nepal. The company owns 4 subsidiaries namely, SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), SJVN Thermal Private Limited (STPL) for Indian operations, and SJVN Lower Arun Power Development Company Private Limited (SLPDC), SJVN Arun -3 Power Development Company Pvt. Ltd. (SAPDC) for operations in Nepal.

Conclusion: The initiatives under this collaboration are expected to contribute approximately 11,500 million units of renewable energy annually to India’s green energy capacity positioning the country as a leader in renewable energy solutions.
