SJVN Limited, a Government of India enterprise, has successfully commissioned its 90 MW Omkareshwar Floating Solar Project. The project, executed by SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), a wholly owned subsidiary, has increased SJVN’s total installed capacity to 2466.50 MW.
The 90 MW Omkareshwar Floating Solar Project is part of the Omkareshwar Floating Solar Park in Khandwa district, Madhya Pradesh, India’s largest floating solar park. This project marks SJVN’s entry into the floating solar power segment and is one of the largest floating solar projects in Central and North India.
Developed at a cost of ₹646.20 crore, the project is expected to generate 196.5 million units of energy in its first year. Over its 25-year lifespan, the estimated cumulative energy generation is 4629.3 million units. The project will increase SJVN’s revenue by ₹64 crore and reduce carbon emissions by 2.3 lakh tons, contributing significantly to India’s net-zero carbon emission goal by 2070. Additionally, the project will help conserve water by reducing evaporation.
The project was awarded through a competitive bidding process conducted by REWA Ultra Mega Solar Limited (RUMSL) at a tariff of ₹3.26 per unit on a Build Own and Operate basis. The Power Purchase Agreement has been signed between SGEL and RUMSL & MPPMCL for a period of 25 years.
SJVN’s current project portfolio stands at 56,802.40 MW, encompassing projects in hydro, pumped storage, thermal, and renewable energy sectors. The successful commissioning of the Omkareshwar Floating Solar Project demonstrates SJVN’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions and its contribution to India’s renewable energy goals.
