Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy Limited (SWREL) has secured a groundbreaking order for a 1,000 MWh standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) plant in Rajasthan, India. This project marks a significant milestone as India’s largest BESS project to date and one of the world’s largest single-location BESS installations.

The order underscores SWREL’s leadership in the rapidly growing Indian BESS market. With a current installed BESS capacity of only 219 MWh in India, this project aligns with the National Electricity Plan’s (NEP) projection of 82.37 GWh energy storage requirement by 2026-27.

In addition to this landmark BESS project, SWREL has secured a 20 MW floating solar project in Karnataka, further solidifying its position in the renewable energy sector. This marks the company’s third floating solar project in India. The total order value for both projects, including O&M and taxes, stood at ₹328 crore.

Speaking on the order win, Mr Amit Jain, Global CEO of Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy Group, shared, “As we have seen during the course of last 12 to 18 months, there have been multiple tenders, bids, and projects for either standalone Storage or Hybrid (Renewable + Storage) in India, making it a very important step for us as a Company and for the nation to move towards firm dispatchable renewable power. We are proud to be chosen as the preferred EPC partner in this prestigious project, which would be a significant milestone not only in our Company portfolio but also for our Country as a whole.

He further added, “This win depicts our in-house capabilities and knowledge of Energy Storage plus Engineering and Execution and places us with a large advantage in the Solar and Storage Market, which is likely to grow tremendously in the near future. This also shows our commitment to be more agile and remain ahead of the curve and competition, ensuring our presence as one of the top renewable EPC players in this market.”
