Investors and traders in India will have a long weekend as the stock market will be closed on Friday, November 15, 2024, for Guru Nanak Jayanti. The market will also be closed on Weekend (Saturday and Sunday) for the routine weekend break, reopening on Monday, November 18, 2024. This marks a 3-day holiday for market participants.
Guru Nanak Jayanti is a significant occasion to observe the birthday of Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of Sikhism. Guru Nanak, born in 1469, is the first of the 10 Sikh Gurus, and his teachings are central to the Sikh faith.
Both the NSE and the BSE will remain closed on Friday, November 15, 2024, for all trading activities, including stocks, derivatives, and securities lending and borrowing (SLB) segments. Due to the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly General Election, the next market holiday will be on Wednesday, November 20, 2024.
The final stock market holiday of the year will be on Christmas, December 25, 2024.
The Indian stock market is open Monday through Friday, with trading hours from 9:15 AM to 3:30 PM. A pre-open session runs from 9:00 AM to 9:15 AM on regular trading days. The market remains closed on Saturdays and Sundays.
The stock markets will be closed on November 15, 2024, but the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will operate partially, holding an evening session from 5 PM to 11:30/11:55 PM. Meanwhile, the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX), focused on agri-commodities, will remain closed for the day.

The Sensex dropped by 266 points (0.34%) to a low of 77,424.81, while the Nifty fell 116.25 points (0.5%) to an intra-day low of 23,486.10 as of 11:30 AM on NSE.
Currently, both indices are down over 10% from their record highs set in September. In these 6 sessions alone, they have lost more than 4%.
In the previous session on November 13, the Sensex closed 984.23 points lower at 77,690.95, and the Nifty declined by 324.4 points to finish at 23,559.05.
