The Indian stock exchanges, BSE and NSE, will remain closed for trading on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, in observance of Christmas. This will be the last stock market holiday of 2024. Most global markets, including those in the UK, US, and Europe, will also be closed on the same day.

On Wednesday, stocks, derivatives, and securities lending and borrowing (SLB) segments will not trade or settle. Additionally, the currency and commodity markets will be closed.

Regular trading will resume on Thursday, December 26, 2024. The next market holiday for Mahashivratri will occur on February 26, 2025.

Muhurat Trading will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, with timings to be announced later.

Stock Market Trading Hours 

The Indian stock market operates Monday to Friday, from 9:15 AM to 3:30 PM, with a pre-open session from 9:00 AM to 9:15 AM. The market is closed on Saturdays and Sundays.

Commodity Markets Closed 

On December 25, 2024, the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) and the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) will also be closed for both morning and evening trading sessions.

Market Recap

The BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty50 ended the day nearly unchanged on Tuesday. The Sensex hit a high of 78,877.36 but closed slightly lower at 78,472.87, down 67.30 points or 0.09%. Similarly, the Nifty50 fell by 25.80 points or 0.11% to close at 23,727.65, trading within a range of 23,867.65 to 23,709.65 during the session.
