On Friday, the National Stock Exchange (NSE) announced a trading holiday on November 20, 2024, in observance of the Maharashtra Assembly elections.
According to an NSE circular, trading will be closed during regular market hours, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. However, the evening trading session will remain open from 5:00 p.m. to 11:55 p.m. This adjustment ensures that traders can still access the market later in the day, allowing for some trading activity while accommodating the elections.
The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) has not yet confirmed a similar closure, but it is likely to announce the same since both NSE and BSE typically align their operational schedules, including holidays and timings.
November 1 was observed as a holiday for Diwali, with a brief Muhurat trading session held for an hour in the evening, in line with tradition.
On November 15, the markets will remain closed for Guru Nanak Jayanti. Following that, the November 20 closure for the Maharashtra elections will be the final holiday of the month for stock exchanges.
Traders and investors should make a note of these holiday schedules to plan their trading activities accordingly, particularly with the availability of the evening session on election day.
