After Zomato, now IRCTC entered into an agreement with Swiggy to avail their food delivery services. On Tuesday, March 5, 2024, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) signed an agreement with online food aggregator Swiggy to deliver food to passengers at railway stations. This service will commence on March 12, 2024.

Swiggy and IRCTC Agreement Details

As per the agreement between Swiggy and IRCTC, Swiggy will be delivering food at Bangalore, Bhubaneshwar, Visakhapatnam, and Vijayawada railway stations. They plan to expand this service to 59 other stations in the next 6 months. It is to be noted that only passengers travelling in reserved coaches can order food from Swiggy. The unreserved passengers who don’t have a PNR number are excluded from this service.

How To Avail Swiggy’s Services on Train?

Passengers travelling in reserved coaches have to enter their PNR on the IRCTC app and then select the preferred station for food delivery. They can browse the list of restaurants available on Swiggy and choose a restaurant that is delivering at the specified time and location. Once the order is placed, the food delivery app’s delivery agent will reach the specified station and deliver the food to the passenger.

As usual, the food will be packed and sealed in Swiggy bags to keep the meal warm and fresh, as they claim. Swiggy stated that the charges would be normal and competitive. They further added that the support agents will be trained in the resolution process and cancellation policies as well.

As per Rohit Kapoor, CEO of Food Marketplace, Swiggy, the Indian Railways transports over 8 billion passengers in a year. During these train journeys, if a passenger has the chance to order meals to explore the culinary diversity of India, it would make their experience more convenient and enjoyable and also add to the overall vividness of rail travel.

IRCTC is already in collaboration with another food aggregator giant, Zomato. In 2023, Zomato got into an agreement with IRCTC to facilitate the supply and delivery of pre-ordered meals via its e-catering portal. Zomato delivers at 63 railway stations, including Prayagraj, New Delhi, Kanpur, Varanasi and Lucknow.
