The Indian automobile industry is one of the fastest growing in the world, and the electric vehicle (EV) segment is no exception. In recent years, there has been a growing rivalry between two of the biggest players in the Indian EV market: Tata Motors and Tesla. 

Tesla is the world’s leading electric vehicle (EV) company, while Tata Motors is India’s largest automaker. Both companies are at the forefront of the EV revolution, but they are taking different approaches. Tesla is focused on building high-end luxury EVs, while Tata Motors is focused on making affordable EVs for the mass market. 

Market Capital 

Tata Motors boasts a market capitalization of Rs 2,38,048 crore, while Tesla commands a significantly larger market capitalisation of USD 657.97 billion. The stock of Tata Motors is trading at Rs 649.40 whereas Tesla Inc stock is trading at USD 209.98. Both companies have a presence in their origin country as well as in other geographies. Tesla is yet to come to India 

Diwali to Diwali Performance 

Tata Motors and Tesla have exhibited distinct performances in the market. Tata Motors has seen a robust growth of 57.82%, reflecting a significant upward trend. On the other hand, Tesla’s performance over the same period has been comparatively modest, with a 7.15% increase. 

Stock Performance 

Tata Motors and Tesla show divergent trends in the short term. Looking at the one-month perspective, Tata Motors outperformed Tesla with a gain of 3.17%, while Tesla faced a more significant decrease of -16.38%. Tata Motors has shown remarkable gains over the past three and five years, with growth percentages of 345.58% and 261.42%, respectively.  

On the other hand, Tesla, while experiencing a significant 59.88% growth over the past three years, has seen an exceptional 791.19% surge in the last five years. This indicates that Tesla has been a stronger performer in the longer term, showcasing its capacity for sustained growth and market dominance.
