TCS OmniStore™ Launches 100% Mobile Checkout for Croma Stores

On August 12, 2024, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) announced that it has rolled out mobile checkout at all Croma stores, marking a first for the Indian retail industry. Using its TCS OmniStore™ platform, which combines AI technology, TCS has made the checkout process faster and improved the shopping experience both in-store and online.

This new system allows customers to easily check out using their mobile phones anywhere in the store and ensures a smooth in-store and online shopping experience. It has led to higher sales and more visitors for Croma while also cutting down the time shoppers spend at checkout.

Croma, a top Indian electronics retailer with over 500 stores in 160 cities and 22,000 products from 550 brands, has worked with TCS for over ten years. In 2019, they expanded their partnership to revamp their business model and technology. This collaboration aims to provide a great unified shopping experience and strengthen Croma’s leadership in the competitive retail market.

TCS OmniStore’s microservices-based design provides Croma with the flexibility and scalability to constantly improve and simplify the shopping process, from buying to customer service. It supports various features like click-and-collect, scan-and-go, universal cart, self-checkout, and dynamic promotions. Customers can choose from over 80 payment options, including wallets, cards, UPI, and loans.

The new cloud-based checkout system reduces the need for traditional hardware, allowing Croma to set up billing four times faster. This efficiency is crucial for their rapid store expansion and has helped them save 83% of Bill Desk space, making more room for selling. The quick rollout of mobile checkout across 500+ stores in just 2 weeks highlights how user-friendly the system is, requiring minimal staff training and contributing to the success of the transformation.
