On Wednesday, the benchmark indices were trading in the red with the Sensex down around 35 points or 0.04% at 73,640, while the Nifty-50 was down around 45 points or 0.20% at 22,292. About 594 shares have advanced; 2,998 declined; and 108 are unchanged on the BSE.

Top gainers and losers on the BSE Sensex index:

The top Sensex gainers were Nestle India Ltd, ICICI Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank while the top Sensex losers were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd, Tata Steel Ltd and Tata Motors Ltd.

The indices in the broader markets were trading lower, with the BSE Mid-cap index down 1.69% and the BSE Small-Cap Index down 2.50%, respectively. The top mid-cap gainers were Linde India Ltd and APL Apollo Tubes Ltd, while the top small-cap gainers were Swan Energy Ltd and MM Forging Ltd.

The BSE Information Technology Index was the top gaining among the sectoral indices, soaring 0.10% led by Intellect Design Arena Ltd and Tata Elxsi Ltd. The BSE Utilities Index was the top losing sector, down 5% dragged down by Adani Green Energy Ltd and JSW Energy Ltd.

In the pre-opening session, these three stocks were trending: Gensol Engineering Ltd, Solar Industries India Ltd and ITC Ltd
