From the onset of April, both the flagship Sensex and Nifty indices have surged by approximately 10% each, while broader indices such as BSE MidCap and BSE SmallCap have recorded substantial gains of over 35% and 39%, respectively.

The notable upsurge in the Indian markets has coincided with a marked increase in new demat accounts. In October alone, approximately 26.8 lakh new demat accounts were initiated across CDSL and NSDL, propelling the total count to a record high of 13.24 crore.

In contrast, global equities grappled with volatility, primarily stemming from the anticipated prolongation of higher rates by the US Federal Reserve, coupled with consistent selling by foreign investors in local equities.

Top gainers and losers on the BSE Sensex index are as follows:

During Tuesday’s trading session, the Sensex and Nifty kicked off with increases of 0.42% and 0.43%, respectively. Concurrently, Nifty Midcap and Nifty Smallcap also saw upward openings of 0.35% and 0.3%, signaling a favorable market sentiment.

Among individual stocks, top gainers included Hindalco, Adani Enterprises, and JSW Steel, while Coal India, ONGC, and Britannia found themselves among the leading losers within the BSE Sensex.

The broader market sentiment remains upbeat, with approximately 2079 advancing stocks compared to 986 declining stocks, indicating an overall optimistic trend in the broader market.

Prominent sectoral movements featured Nifty Metal, Nifty Realty, and Nifty Media leading the gainers, while Nifty FMCG emerged as the sole major sector exhibiting underperformance.
