On Wednesday, the benchmark indices were trading in the red with the Sensex down around 163 points or 0.22% at 73,513, while the Nifty-50 was down around 68 points or 0.30% at 22,287. About 695 shares have advanced; 2,870 declined; and 127 are unchanged on the BSE.

Top gainers and losers on the BSE Sensex index:

The top Sensex gainers were Axis Bank, ICICI Bank and IndusInd Bank while the top Sensex losers were Tata Steel Ltd, Power Gird Corporation Ltd and NTPC Ltd.

The indices in the broader markets were trading lower, with the BSE Mid-cap index down 1.53% and the BSE Small-Cap Index down 2.08%, respectively. The top mid-cap gainers were REC Ltd and Torrent Power Ltd, while the top small-cap gainers were SMS Pharmaceuticals Ltd and D B Corp Ltd.

The BSE Bankex Index was the top gaining among the sectoral indices, soaring 1.08% led by Federal Bank and AU Small Finance Bank Ltd. The BSE Power Index was the top losing sector, down 2.25% dragged down by Suzlon Energy Ltd and Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd.

In the pre-opening session, these three stocks were trending: Bharat Dynamics Ltd, Prism Johnson Ltd and Kotak Mahindra Bank.
