The shares of Vedanta Ltd. are in focus on October 4 after the company released its business updates for Q2 and Half year ended September 30, 2024 (1HFY25).

During the period, Vedanta recorded its highest-ever aluminium production. It posted a growth of 21% on a YoY basis in alumina production to 1,039 kt, and aluminium production was up 3% YoY to 1,205 kt. This growth was fueled by operational efficiencies.

The company announced record second-quarter production levels for both mined and refined metals at Zinc India. Zinc India achieved a new high in mined metal production, with refined metal output increasing by 5% year-on-year to 524 kt in the first half of the year. Additionally, Zinc International saw a 16% rise in volumes quarter-on-quarter.

The company reported its highest-ever mined metal production for the first half of the year, driven by improved ore treatment and higher overall metal grades. Refined metal production also grew, with refined zinc up 4% and refined lead up 7% year-on-year. Silver volumes surged 10% sequentially in the second quarter.

On the downside, oil and gas production declined by 22% year-on-year and 7% quarter-on-quarter. Vedanta’s finished steel production fell 7% in the first half, attributed to a planned shutdown in Q2 for the debottlenecking of the Steel Melting Shop and maintenance of the Oxygen Plant.

Power sales increased by 10% year-on-year, bolstered by higher generation from thermal plants. Ferrochrome production soared 70% year-on-year to 53 kt, thanks to the commissioning of a new furnace.

Iron ore volumes rose 6% to 2.6 mt in the first half, although Pig Iron production was negatively impacted by maintenance activities.
