On the first trading day of the new financial year, Indian benchmark indices surged to unprecedented levels, propelled by strong gains in the metals, power, utilities, and real estate sectors. Broader indices notably outpaced the main indices by a considerable margin, indicating robust market performance across a wider spectrum of stocks.

At 10:35 am, the BSE Sensex soared 0.65% reaching a level of 74,124. The Nifty 50 index climbed 0.77% to the 22,498 level. On the Sensex, JSW Steel, Tata Steel and Larsen & Toubro were among the top gainers, whereas Nestle India, Titan and Bharti Airtel were among the market draggers.

Some of the noteworthy volume movers are as follows:

  1. PNB Housing Finance Ltd

    The trading volume of PNB Housing Finance Ltd soared fourfold as its shares climbed by more than 14% to hit an intraday high of Rs 720.40 per share on the BSE. The company provides various loans to retail customers, encompassing individual home loans, loan against property, non-resident property loans, and more.

  2. EKI Energy Services Ltd

    EKI Energy Services Ltd witnessed a doubling in trading volume, fuelling significant buying interest, leading its shares to be locked at the 20% upper circuit at Rs 331.60, following early trades that saw them hitting a 52-week low. The company specializes in climate change and sustainability advisory services, carbon offsetting, as well as offering other services such as management training on JIT/Kaizen and electrical safety audits.

  3. JSW Steel Ltd

    JSW Steel Ltd led the gains on the BSE Sensex as its shares experienced a notable uptick in buying activity, surging around 5% to reach an intraday high of Rs 873.50 per share on the BSE. The company’s primary focus lies in the manufacturing and sale of iron and steel products. Additionally, the group has diverse interests spanning energy, infrastructure, cement, paints, sports, and venture capital.
