The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) has launched World Investor Week (WIW) 2024, a global initiative aimed at enhancing financial literacy and promoting responsible investing practices. The event, which runs from October 14 to 20, 2024, is being observed in India under the leadership of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and other Market Infrastructure Institutions (MIIs). The week-long program educates investors about the importance of technology, digital finance, and cybersecurity.

This year’s theme, “Technology and Digital Finance,” emphasises investor awareness about online safety and highlights the prevention of cybercrimes and fraud in the digital finance space. With the rapid growth of online transactions and digital investments, the initiative aims to equip investors with the knowledge and tools to navigate the evolving landscape securely.

The BSE marked the beginning of the event with a ceremonial bell-ringing at its International Convention Hall, symbolising the official commencement of the week’s activities.

Throughout the week, BSE will host various digital, print, and on-ground activities to engage a diverse audience of investors. Key initiatives include a nationwide quiz to test and enhance public knowledge of digital finance and cybersecurity.

The exchange also organised competitions, encouraging participants to create jingles and storytelling content based on the WIW theme and spreading awareness about responsible investing.

In addition to these digital initiatives, street plays are being performed in cities like Indore, Bhopal, Ujjain, and Nagpur to alert the public to the dangers of falling victim to online fraud and cybercrimes. These performances aim to raise awareness of common tactics used by cybercriminals and educate the public on how to protect themselves.

As part of the initiative, a social media campaign has also been launched. This campaign draws attention to the Nava Rasas, the nine emotional states of mind, and how these emotions can impact investment decisions. It encourages investors to remain objective and avoid emotional decision-making when managing their portfolios.

World Investor Week 2024 is a platform for BSE and other participating institutions to empower investors through education, promote digital financial literacy, and foster a culture of safe and informed investing. The initiative underscores the importance of cybersecurity in the increasingly digital investment environment and aims to build a more financially literate society.
