Apollo Micro Systems Ltd has announced the receipt of an order worth ₹10.90 crore from Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) for a state-of-the-art Software Defined Universal Homing System designed for Heavy Weight Torpedoes.
The company stated that this cutting-edge technology, developed in collaboration with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), positions Apollo Micro Systems as the sole qualified vendor for this Homing System, underscoring its pivotal role in India’s Strategic Submarine Programmes.
The order signifies the beginning of large-scale production of these advanced torpedoes, which will be integrated into strategic submarines. This development aligns with the Ministry of Defence’s Embargo List, which promotes the inclusion of indigenous systems in the Indian Armed Forces.
In addition to the Heavy Weight Torpedoes, Apollo Micro Systems has successfully adapted this technology for Light Weight Torpedoes, again in collaboration with BDL. This next-generation Homing System is set to be among the best in the Light Weight category globally, designed to counter complex underwater threats effectively.
The company’s extensive expertise in underwater warfare is further highlighted by its successful development and production of Signal Processing systems for Expendable Decoys, which have already been inducted into the Indian Navy. Apollo Micro Systems has also developed Underwater Mines, with technical trials completed and user trials set to commence soon.
Beyond this significant order, Apollo Micro Systems also announced that it has been declared the lowest bidder (L1) for a project from the Controllerate of Naval Armament (OF) valued at ₹5.73 crore. This project involves the development of a Rocket Guided Bomb for Anti-Submarine Warfare, capable of being fired from ships in salvos. This achievement marks the company’s entry into the complete development and manufacturing of Rocket Guided Bombs, expanding its capabilities to include weapons systems for air, land, and sea applications.
These developments represent a major leap forward for Apollo Micro Systems in the underwater warfare domain, reinforcing its position as a key player in the defence sector.
