Banking Stocks Lead the Market with Positive Gains on April 17, 2025

On the morning of the trading session, banking stocks continued to perform well, driving the broader market indices higher. As of 09:47 IST, the BSE BANKEX index saw a notable rise of 347.45 points or 0.57%, reaching 61083.51.

Top Gainers in Banking Sector

Among the standout performers, ICICI Bank Ltd led the charge with a gain of 1.9%, followed by HDFC Bank Ltd, which rose by 0.78%. Other banking stocks like Canara Bank (up 0.68%), Bank of Baroda (up 0.64%), State Bank of India (up 0.35%), and Axis Bank Ltd (up 0.22%) also saw positive movement.

These gains helped support the overall market sentiment, with banking stocks contributing significantly to the BSE BANKEX index’s rise.

While the banking sector showed strength, not all banking stocks saw positive movement. IndusInd Bank Ltd(down 0.65%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd(down 0.37%), and Federal Bank Ltd(down 0.33%) faced some downward pressure, offsetting some of the gains in other sectors.

In broader market movements, the BSE SmallCap index was up by 290.05 points or 0.61% to 47,988.70, reflecting an uptick in smaller stocks. Besides, the BSE 150 MidCap Index was up by 0.58%, indicating a slight gain in midcap stocks.

At 12.28 PM, the Nifty 50 index was up by 1.02%, settling at 23,675.55. On the other hand, the BSE Sensex rose by 888.89 points or 1.15%, reaching 77933.18 at 12.29 PM.

Conclusion

Banking stocks continue to show resilience in the market, leading the gains in the BSE BANKEX index. The overall market sentiment remains largely positive. Investors are closely monitoring sector performances, particularly in the banking space, as they drive market momentum.
