Blue Dart Express Limited, incorporated in 1983, is involved in transportation and door-to-door distribution of time-sensitive shipments, through an integrated ground and air transportation network. The company is regarded as South Asia’s leading courier and integrated air express package distribution company. In 2002, Blue Dart had a business alliance with DHL Express, and on 8 November 2004, DHL Express invested €120 million in it, and since then has been a major shareholder in the company.
Logistics operator Blue Dart announced the launch of drone deliveries in collaboration with Skye Air on Wednesday. The partnership will initially focus on the growing e-commerce sector, marking a significant advancement towards cleaner and more efficient delivery solutions. Blue Dart emphasized that this initiative highlights their leadership in utilizing drone technology for logistics. The move by the logistics operator, Blue Dart is set to revolutionize delivery methods, providing faster and more sustainable options for the e-commerce industry.
Blue Dart has conducted VLOS (Visual Line of Sight) trials in Vikarabad (Hyderabad) in 2021 and BVLOS (Beyond Visual Line of Sight) trials under the Telangana Government’s ‘Medicine from the Sky’ initiative as part of a consortium with Skye Air. BVLOS drone flights extend beyond 500-700 meters from the pilot’s sight, allowing for greater operational range, while VLOS operations require the remote pilot to maintain continuous, unaided visual contact with the drone, ensuring close-range control.
