On December 19, 2024, the BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty50 experienced significant losses, both dropping over 1%. The decline followed hawkish remarks from US Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, which triggered a global market sell-off.
The BSE Sensex ended the day 964.15 points, or 1.20%, lower at 79,218.05. During the session, it fluctuated between 79,516.17 and 79,020.08. Similarly, the NSE Nifty50 dropped 247.15 points, or 1.02%, to close at 23,951.70, after trading in the range of 24,004.90 to 23,870.30.

Sectoral indices mostly ended in the red, with banking, IT, financial services, consumer durables, and metal sectors all declining by about 1%. However, Nifty Pharma and Healthcare stood out as the only sectors to close with gains, providing a glimmer of positivity in an otherwise negative market.
