On December 23, 2024, India’s key stock indices, Sensex and Nifty, ended their 6-day losing streak by closing in the green.
The BSE Sensex climbed 0.64% or 498.58 points to settle at 78,540.17, while the NSE Nifty50 gained 0.95% or 165 points, closing at 23,753.45.
The broader market showed mixed results. The BSE Midcap index rose by 0.10%, while the BSE SmallCap index fell by 0.60%, underperforming the benchmarks.
In Sensex, 20 of 30 stocks advanced. The top performers were ITC, Tech Mahindra, HDFC Bank, Reliance Industries, and IndusInd Bank. Zomato, Maruti, and HCL Tech declined.
In Nifty 50, 32 of 50 stocks ended higher. JSW Steel, ITC, and Hindalco led the gains, while HeroMoto Corp, Maruti, and HCL Tech were the biggest laggards.
Most sectors closed with gains.
The session marked a positive turn for markets after a tough week, with bulls taking the lead across major indices.
