On January 4, 2025, the Ministry of Coal reported outstanding achievements in coal production and dispatch for the year 2024, underscoring its dedication to enhancing energy security and supporting the Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) vision.
In 2024, coal production reached a historic high of 1,039.59 million tonnes (MT) (provisional), marking a 7.28% increase over the previous year’s total of 969.07 MT. This growth reflects the Ministry’s proactive approach to improving domestic coal availability to meet the rising energy demand.
Coal dispatches in 2024 also achieved a new milestone, with 1,012.72 MT (provisional) distributed across the nation. This represents a 6.56% rise from 2023, which saw 950.39 MT dispatched. The consistent increase in both production and dispatch highlights the sector’s focus on ensuring the timely availability of coal for power generation and other industries, strengthening national energy security.
The Ministry’s continued focus on optimising coal production and advancing infrastructure development aligns to reduce dependence on coal imports. This strategy not only boosts self-sufficiency but also contributes to the country’s long-term sustainable growth.
