Embracing the Prime Minister’s vision of “Working with the nation as a whole,” the Ministry of Coal is spearheading a collaborative effort to ensure a stable and affordable coal supply for India’s economic engine. Working alongside the Ministries of Railways and Power, along with other stakeholders, the initiative prioritises coal delivery at set prices for power plants and fertiliser companies. This critical resource also extends to non-regulated sectors like steel, cement, paper, and sponge iron, all essential for continued economic growth.
The Ministry has set a challenging target of producing 1,080 million tonnes (MT) of coal in 2024-25. As of July 19, 2024, they have already achieved a significant milestone, reaching 294.20 MT. This translates to a robust 10.7% growth compared to the same period last year (265.77 MT). This early success underscores the Ministry’s commitment to meeting the energy demands of various sectors while also prioritising sustainable development practices.
Coal dispatch has also witnessed impressive progress. By July 19th, the Ministry had successfully delivered 311.48 MT of coal, marking an 8.49% increase from the previous year (287.12 MT). This not only ensures operational stability for key industries but also contributes to a more balanced and resilient energy market.
The Ministry remains steadfast in its commitment to keeping coal an accessible and affordable resource for all sectors of the economy. This approach strengthens India’s economic trajectory by ensuring a reliable supply chain. By prioritising consistent delivery, the Ministry aims to bolster the nation’s energy security and empower key economic engines. These strategic initiatives position the Coal Ministry as a vital player in driving India’s economic progress. Their focus on both adequate supply and cost-effectiveness guarantees continued support for industries reliant on coal.
