Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, in the Union Budget 2025, announced reductions in customs duties on several imported goods, making them more affordable for Indian consumers. The changes will lower the prices of luxury items, household essentials, and even green energy products. However, some electronic goods will see higher duties.
Buying imported jewellery has become more budget-friendly. A Cartier platinum bracelet, which previously cost ₹5.00 lakh, will now be ₹20,000 cheaper due to a 5% reduction in customs duty. The move comes just in time for those looking to buy high-end jewellery for special occasions.
Luxury bedroom furniture is now easier on the wallet. A King-size bed and mattress set from the premium brand Hastens, earlier priced at ₹1,30,000, will now cost ₹1,26,750 following a 2.5% customs duty reduction. This is a welcome development for those looking to move to a new house or renovate an existing one.
Those looking to upgrade their workstation can now purchase a high-end laptop from abroad at a lower cost. A high-performance Dell XPS laptop, which previously cost ₹3.46 lakh, will now be available for ₹3.37 lakh, thanks to a reduced customs duty rate of 35%.
Bike enthusiasts can now buy imported superbikes at an affordable price. A Ducati Panigale V4, earlier priced at ₹23 lakh, will see a price drop of ₹1.64 lakh due to a 10% customs duty reduction. This reduction benefits motorcycle enthusiasts looking for high-performance bikes.
Those looking to revamp their living space with imported furniture will find better deals. A high-end Fendi Casa leather sofa, previously priced at ₹6.90 lakh, will now cost ₹6.76 lakh, following a customs duty cut from 25% to 20%.
Collecting memorabilia just got more affordable. A signed Lionel Messi football jersey, which earlier cost ₹22,400, will now be priced at ₹19,400, thanks to an 18.5% reduction in customs duty on imported collectables for personal use.
Premium lighting solutions are also becoming more affordable. A Swarovski crystal chandelier, previously priced at ₹2.33 lakh, will now cost ₹2.28 lakh after a 5% reduction in customs duty on luminaires and lighting products.
The push for green energy will be more affordable with a 4% reduction in customs duty on imported solar modules. Homeowners and businesses looking to install solar panels will now benefit from reduced costs.
The government’s latest duty revisions are expected to boost consumer demand while supporting local manufacturing. However, the increase in customs duty on certain electronic items highlights the government’s focus on encouraging domestic production.
