IndianOil, a leading integrated energy company in India, has signed a joint venture agreement with GPS Renewables, a prominent biofuels company. This collaboration marks a significant step towards promoting sustainable energy solutions in the country. The 50:50 joint venture will be dedicated to advancing biofuel adoption across India.
The joint venture will focus on utilising advanced biogas technologies to convert organic waste into Compressed Biogas (CBG), a cleaner and renewable energy source. This initiative aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions significantly and offer a sustainable alternative to traditional fossil fuels. By combining their expertise, IndianOil and GPS Renewables aim to accelerate the deployment of CBG plants nationwide.
This collaboration aligns perfectly with IndianOil’s long-term low-carbon development strategy. The joint venture’s efforts will contribute to achieving operational net zero for IndianOil by 2046, ultimately supporting India’s national net-zero target by 2070.
The adoption of CBG offers numerous advantages for India and the environment. It promotes energy security by lessening dependence on imported fossil fuels. Additionally, CBG supports the rural economy by creating local employment opportunities.
