ITI Limited, the first public sector unit established in India after independence and a leading telecom manufacturing company, has secured its initial order for Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) from the State Election Commission (SEC) of West Bengal. The order is for the supply of 500 EVM sets following a successful demonstration to the SEC in Kolkata.
These Multi-Post EVMs, designed and developed by ITI Limited, meet the specific requirements set by the SEC and the Technical Evaluation Committee. They have also received approval from the State Election Commissioners’ standing committee. These EVMs are suitable for use in local body elections, such as those for Gram Panchayats, Municipalities, Corporations, or any other institutions needing democratic elections.
Additionally, the EVMs can function as Single Post machines, making them adaptable for Lok Sabha or Assembly elections.
The EVMs will be produced at ITI Limited’s factories, adhering to the Election Commission’s technical specifications. They will be delivered promptly, maintaining high-quality standards as committed to the West Bengal SEC.
Commenting on the order win, Mr Rajesh Rai, Chairman and Managing Director of ITI Limited, said, “ITI Limited is delighted to win its first-ever order to manufacture EVMs for the State Election Commission (SEC) of West Bengal, and we would like to use this opportunity to re-establish ITI Limited as a technology manufacturer to reckon with as we will be joining the elite list of EVM manufacturers in India.”
He further added, “ITI Limited is deeply honoured that the devices we will manufacture will empower and enrich the world’s largest democracy, India, by providing EVMs for all kinds of democratic elections. Mr Rai added that ITI Limited is also exploring the business prospects of EVMs with other SECs so that we can offer our quality product by meeting the requirements on a pan-India basis.”
ITI Limited, a leading telecom company in India and a central public sector undertaking, provides comprehensive solutions in the telecommunications field. It has advanced manufacturing facilities located in six cities: Bengaluru, Naini, Raebareli, Mankapur, Srinagar, and Palakkad.
