Jupiter Electric Mobility Private Limited (JEM), a subsidiary of Jupiter Wagons Limited (JWL), is making significant strides in revolutionising rail transport in India with its Lithium-Ion Phosphate (LFP) battery technology. Partnering with Log9 Materials, a leading Indian deep-tech innovator in energy storage, JEM has achieved several key milestones in the development and certification of these batteries.
RDSO Certification for Non-AC Coaches: JEM has become the first company to receive certification from the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) for its LFP battery technology. This accomplishment follows the successful completion of a six-month trial period involving an 11.2 kWh LFP battery pack powering non-AC railway coaches. This marks a significant breakthrough in adopting advanced battery technology for Indian Railways, paving the way for improved efficiency and sustainability.
Industry Recognition and Collaboration
Siemens Purchase Order: JEM’s commitment to innovation has garnered the trust of industry leaders. Siemens placed a purchase order for 36 auxiliary batteries, each with a capacity of 72.8 kWh, to be used in 9 Vande Bharat Trainsets. This collaboration signifies the industry’s confidence in JEM’s LFP battery solutions for powering next-generation trains.
RDSO Approval and BHEL Qualification for 72.8 kWh Battery Pack: The 72.8 kWh LFP battery pack has received not only RDSO approval but also technical qualification from Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), a major player in the Indian railway sector. This dual validation underlines the exceptional performance, safety, and technical excellence of JEM’s battery technology, making it a compelling choice for powering Vande Bharat Trainsets.
JEM’s achievements in LFP battery technology represent a major leap forward for sustainable and efficient rail transport in India. These advancements position JEM as a leader in this transformative field, shaping the future of Indian railways.
“These accomplishments underscore our steadfast dedication to innovation and excellence in railway technology. The RDSO certification, the confidence shown by Siemens, and the technical qualification by BHEL are clear indicators of the superior quality and dependability of our LFP battery solutions. Given the significant demand from Indian Railways and the shift from conventional energy sources towards sustainable and energy-efficient solutions, we believe this business can emerge as a significant contributor to overall revenues over a medium to long-term horizon,” said Mr Vivek Lohia, Managing Director of Jupiter Wagons,
