Lemon Tree Hotels Limited, one of India’s leading hotel chains, has announced its foray into Shillong, Meghalaya, with a major redevelopment project. The company has received a Letter of Award (LoA) from the Government of Meghalaya for the redevelopment, operation, and maintenance of the Orchid Hotel, Shillong. Lemon Tree Hotels share price opened the session with gains of over 1% on December 5, 2024. 

A Landmark Partnership

The project marks Lemon Tree’s first Public-Private Partnership (PPP) initiative. Under the Design, Build, Finance, Operate, and Transfer (DBFOT) model, the company plans to revamp the Orchid Hotel, located in the heart of Shillong, into a premium Aurika-branded property.

Features of the Upcoming Aurika, Shillong

The revamped hotel is expected to be operational within three years and will boast:

  • Approximately 120 well-designed rooms and suites.
  • Modern amenities like a fitness centre, spa, and banquet spaces.
  • Dining options include an all-day restaurant and a bar.

Strategic Location

The Orchid Hotel’s location is a key highlight. Situated in Polo Market, Shillong, it offers:

  • Proximity to the city’s bus terminus (2 km).
  • Easy access to the Guwahati Railway Station (97 km) and two airports – Umroi (32 km) and Guwahati (119 km).

Aurika Brand: Beyond the Usual

The Aurika brand, known for its stylish elegance and personalised service, reflects the soul of its destination. With properties in Mumbai Skycity and Udaipur, Aurika hotels aim to offer inspiring spaces with innovative dining and wellness options.

Incentives and Support

The project qualifies for financial incentives, including capital subsidies and GST reimbursements, under the Meghalaya Industrial & Investment Promotion Policy (MIIPP)-2024 and the Uttar Poorva Transformative Industrialisation Scheme (UNNATI)-2024.
