Nagarjuna Construction Company (NCC) has been awarded a contract worth ₹501.25 crore by Rail Infrastructure Development Company (Karnataka) Limited (K-RIDE) for the construction of eight stations under the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project (BSRP). The project falls under Corridor 2, known as the Mallige Line, connecting Benniganahalli to Chikkabanavara.

The Letter of Acceptance (LoA) for the project, categorised as Package C2-A, specifies a completion timeline of 24 months from the date of the contract agreement.

Project Scope and Details

The 8 stations included in the package are Benniganahalli (elevated interchange), Kasturi Nagar (at-grade), Seva Nagar (at-grade), Banaswadi (at-grade), Nagawara (elevated), Kanaka Nagar (elevated), Hebbal (at-grade), and Mathikere (elevated). The scope of work includes civil and structural construction, entry and exit structures, steel foot overbridges (FOBs), roof structures, pre-engineered building (PEB) works, electrical and mechanical (E&M) systems, plumbing, façades, architectural finishes, and detailed design and engineering (DDC).

Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project Overview

Corridor 2 spans a total length of 25.57 km, with 12 stations. While the current package involves eight stations, the construction of four additional stations – Yeshwanthpur, Shettyhalli, Mydarahalli, and Chikkabanavara, will be handled under Package C2-B. The corridor’s viaduct and at-grade embankments are being constructed under a separate contract awarded earlier.

K-RIDE floated tenders for the station construction in June 2024. Technical bids were opened in September, and NCC emerged as the lowest bidder when financial bids were revealed on October 30.

Future Developments

Two suburban rail corridors, Benniganahalli-Chikkabanavara and Heelalige-Rajanukunte, are expected to become operational by December 2026. However, tenders for procuring 306 train coaches, estimated at ₹4,300 crore, are yet to be finalised, pending approval from the Union Railway Ministry. The Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project, when completed, aims to improve regional connectivity and ease congestion within the city.

NCC Ltd shares are trading at ₹264.30, down 3.15% today, showing a 21.41% decline over six months but a 51.56% gain over the past year.
