The Indian stock exchanges, including the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), will remain shut on Thursday, December 25, 2024, in observance of Christmas. This closure will apply to all trading segments, including the equity segment, derivatives, and Securities Lending and Borrowing (SLB) segments.

Trading Timings For MCX

As per the BSE holiday calendar, the holiday on December 25 extends to all major divisions such as capital markets, futures, and options. Trading in the Currency Derivatives Segment will also remain suspended.

Similarly, there will be no activity in the commodity derivatives and electronic gold receipts (EGR) segments, which means the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) and National Commodity Exchange (NCDEX) will not operate from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on this day.

Stock Market Holidays 2024: Overview

In 2024, the BSE announced 16 trading holidays. So far, 14 holidays have already been observed. The last market closure was on Friday, November 20, for the Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2024.

Upcoming Trading Holidays in 2025

Looking ahead to 2025, the next scheduled market holiday is on Wednesday, February 26, for Mahashivratri. Notably, January 26, India’s Republic Day, falls on a Sunday in 2025, meaning there will be no additional holiday on that occasion.

The distribution of stock market holidays in 2025 includes one holiday each in February, May, November, and December; two holidays each in March and August; and three holidays each in April and October.

Detailed List of 2025 Stock Market Holidays

The BSE has announced the trading holidays for the year 2025. The markets will remain closed on the following dates: February 26 (Wednesday) for Mahashivratri, March 14 (Friday) for Holi, and March 31 (Monday) for Id-Ul-Fitr (Ramadan Eid).

In April, there are three holidays: April 10 (Thursday) for Shri Mahavir Jayanti, April 14 (Monday) for Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Jayanti, and April 18 (Friday) for Good Friday.

Trading will also remain suspended on May 1 (Thursday) for Maharashtra Day and on August 15 (Friday) for Independence Day, followed by August 27 (Wednesday) for Ganesh Chaturthi. In October, the markets will observe holidays on October 2 (Thursday) for Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti/Dussehra, October 21 (Tuesday) for Diwali Laxmi Pujan, and October 22 (Wednesday) for Diwali-Balipratipada.

The final holidays of the year are on November 5 (Wednesday) for Prakash Gurpurb Sri Guru Nanak Dev and December 25 (Thursday) for Christmas. Traders and investors are encouraged to plan their activities accordingly, keeping these scheduled closures in mind.
